WIND HELLAS IS UPDATING THE BACKBONE NETWORK - 3/6/2009
Athens, June 3rd 2009. This year, WIND Hellas is proceeding to the modernization of its Backbone Network, aiming at increasing its capacity and providing optimal services, in terms of quality. The project, has been appointed to the Company Ericsson and will be implemented within a three-year period. This project consists in the most extensive update / modernization of the Company’s Technical Centres’ infrastructure in the cities of Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Larissa, Heraklio and Kavala using state-of-the-art technology systems, as well as in supporting the Central Network of the Company nation-wide with 12 new most-modern nodes. The implementation of the project has already commenced from WIND Technical Centre in the city of Patras, to be gradually extended to the remaining centres in Greece. The planning of WIND’s new backbone network is based on a simplified modern architectural structure to offer to all WIND subscribers the functionality required in the utilization and the support of advanced telecommunication applications. At the same time, it intends to ensure the unhindered and most simplified operation of its infrastructures, by improving the interconnection among the technical centres of the Company in Greece and providing the chance for continuous and speedy completion of the network’s functions. WIND’s new advanced and integrated backbone network will offer even better voice and data related services, since it will utilize advanced codification software and protocols and it will have increased capacity, so as to fulfil the needs in periods of extended demand (e.g. Christmas, New Year’s Eve) by channeling the calls automatically to the nearest available call-centre. In relation to the project at hand, Mr. Fotis Konstantellos, WIND Network General Manager made the following statements: “The technological modernization of WIND’s network infrastructure constitute a competitive advantage and contribute to the provision of telecommunication services of high quality and high availability”. Finally, it is worth mentioning that the new network is environment-friendly, the technical centers of the company become “green” and that their operation calls for a reduced energy consumption, confining, thus, the “energy imprint” of WIND.
